Sun and Shadow - Vibrant and Blackened - Modern and Heritage

    Rainbows:

    Sunny Brights and Shadow

The rainbow in full sun and the rainbow in shadow provides a strong image for the new directions in interior color for the American home.

Sky blues – the brightest of the summer sky to the lightest grayed version of winters eve will be important bridge colors in the evolving palette – 31D2 Buffet and 31D3 Breeze are examples of grayed blues.

Lavender – of the garden as experienced in the flower and lavender that is hazy and grayed and blackened will be a beautiful adaptation – 38C3 Galena is a perfect example of this direction.

Small "bites" of brights will be a strong direction for big change in color for 2011 – 29B6 Snap is a bold blue that will provide a strong directional color for accent and change, with bright white and soft lavender a fresh combination is developed.

    Meadows:

    Bright and Light

Add some sun to green – Greens and Yellows, Lime 19B5 Sweet Charity and Lemon 14A Fool’s Gold supported by fresh white are a great combination.

Grassy Greens – 20A5 Canopy Green and Warm Golden Wheats supported by Sunny Yellow – 14A3 Solaris create serene backgrounds for all rooms of the home.

Add some gray to green – and look to 23D5 Darjeeling and 22C5 Tomatillo as useful and stylish greens.

Keep the value the same of all the shades and a fresh adaptation is created.

    Denim Dreams:

Denim Blue moves to the look of traditional denim - 30C7 Stormy Petrel and moves gray as well. Blackened red, blackened raspberry, blackened lavender and fresh aqua create deep and fresh adaptations and beautiful combinations that endure. Look to Native American blankets for perfect color combinations.

    Minimalist Color Modern and Sparse:

Fresh Modern Neutrals with a hint of the past like 29D1 Fresh Laundry, 39D1 Stone Cold and 42D1 Stability are directional neutrals that move the palette to a fresh and clean future.

Look to camel, 17C3 Belgian Waffle and other soft creamy rich neutrals of historical permanence as simple ways to make a house a home.

Gray 36D2 Premier Showing is a unique adaptation – it can be paired with blues, lavenders, aquas, whites, almost any cool version of any hue to show the fresh approach to the warm neutrals that have been so prevalent.

Quick Changes that Make a World of Difference:

    Color Blocks

Think of the room as four separate walls – one or two walls can be highlighted either using a light or dark tone.

    Colors of Transition

Paint the doors, hallways, or entry a fresh color that changes the whole visual flow of a home.

    Paint it Fun

Think about a hot pink wall, a bright yellow door, flowers in bloom on a fresh white wall. Consider the power that changing color has in your environment.
